On Tuesday Lucy and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. We can testify to the faithfulness and grace of our heavenly Father with gratitude for his providence in bringing us together. We have enjoyed the blessings that he planned long ago for us. Our kind friends, Ian and Joan Hamilton, took us for the afternoon to Lavenham.
This is a lovely, quintessential, English town about 1 hour from Cambridge. The buildings, as you can see, are twisted and crooked, uneven and not plumb. It lends to the quaintness of this Medieval town.
The Lavenham parish Church was where William Gurnall preached, beginning in 1644. He wrote a massive work on Christian warfare from Ephesians 6 entitled The Christian in Complete Armour. The Banner of Truth also publishes an abridged version of it.
On Thursday, Jessica, Joshua, and I returned to London to peruse the British Museum. It was fantastic to see so many displays relating to biblical history such as the Cyrus Cylinder pictured below (the same Cyrus of Ezra 1). 
Mummies from Egypt, columns from Greece, sculptures from Rome, and carvings from Assyria depicting the defeat of Lachish stimulated our eyes and minds. We took the Tube to the Imperial War Museum and spent a few hours there viewing modern history. There was a sobering and disturbing exhibition on the holocaust. It was a sombre reminder of the depths of the depravity of the human heart and the desperate need for God’s grace. Thank God that his grace is so freely offered to us in our Lord Jesus Christ. After doing some shopping (but no purchasing) at Harrods (Lucy and I saw the owner’s estate in Scotland which includes a lovely castle and 180,000 acres of land) we returned to Cambridge, exhausted and exhilarated by the day.
